String is basically made up of fibers that have been spun into thread. The strength of the string depends on what the fibers are made of, such as silk or cotton. The more threads in the string, the thicker it is.

Most string is made out of cotton. There is also string made from things like silk, and even hair! I'd have to say that my absolute favorite would have to be string made from cheese.
