Sled dogs are also referred to as sledge dogs. Some of the more popular breed type to be a sled dog are the Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Mackenzie River Husky and the Canadian Eskimo Dog.

The Alaskan Husky is the most popular sled dog, but many other Husky breeds are used, as well. The Siberian, the Eskimo, the Malamute, and the Chinook are a few. Many of these dogs are cross bred with a dog with particular qualities that make a good, fast, strong sled dog.
