Mummies are made by a process called mummification. This was does in ancient Egypt times as the Egyptians believed this is what needed to be done to pass on to the afterlife. The body was cleansed and all internal organs removed. The body was ritually purified and the organs were preserved and bandaged. After this the organs were placed in the ritual jars which would accompany the body to the burial place. The body was then covered in natron and allowed to dry out. Then it was prepared for and bandaged and the funeral was then held. This was a very labor intensive process which took approximately seventy days. You can find more information here:
